Praises:

Characters:

The characters were amazing! Character development was definitely a 10/10. Each character has their own unique talents and abilities. AND they are diverse, with their own backgrounds. They're all such strong characters who have their own reasons for joining the heist. No prejudice or discrimination whatsoever, Bardugo made a phenomenal job in describing each character. By far, Inej is my favourite character.

Writing Style/Narrative:

Bardugo's writing style never disappoints! She is just so descriptive (literally, she is able to describe anything). Bardugo can take a boring piece of rock and make it sound like the most interesting thing ever. This novel is told in multiple points of view (5 POV to be exact). Each POV is so engaging and mesmerizing. They all have their own personalities, making every single chapter super fun and suspenseful. Bardugo's writing style isn't confusing at all. She is a very neat writer who is meticulous with her descriptions, narrations, and dialogues.

Plot:

A FREAKING GREAT PLOT. LITERALLY. This is such an interesting and unique take on a heist. Ugh, Bardugo never seizes to disappoint. She is the definition of a great storyteller. (Yup, that is the only thing I'm going to say about the plot).

Criticism:

The only thing I will criticize is the beginning of the novel. It's a bit slow-paced since it takes a while to build up the characters and the world they live in. It's a bit hard to read because it's just that slow in the first few chapters. Other than that, the story begins to move faster and faster, and it gets super engaging!

Final Review:

This is seriously such a heart-pounding, suspenseful story. I first read this book years ago, and I recently read it again and it's just so good. The beginning drags on a bit, but after, it moves faster and becomes more enjoyable. EVERYONE should give this book a chance and read it (even though this is a young adult book). The writing has a poetic sound to it and the worldbuilding is phenomenal. Bardugo is a gifted writer with the most detailed descriptions ever! I LOVED IT! DEFINITELY RECOMMEND!

Happy Reading!

Cheers,

Jessica :)
